Air links between Britain and neutral Portugal played an important role in wartime passenger transport and diplomatic travel, with the Lisbon–Bristol route forming a notable chapter of that history.

The loss of BOAC Flight 777 in 1943, in which actor Leslie Howard died, is part of the wider historical context. The aircraft involved was G-AGBB, not the G-AGKE depicted by this model. This distinction is important when interpreting the model's story.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1039/9766/9659/files/ard-models-1-200-ying-guo-hai-wai-hang-kong-boac-douglas-dc-3-g-agke-ardba87-die-cast-model-aircraft-293.webp?v=1791306548
https://mansaviationcollectibles.com/vi-hk/products/ard-models-1-200-%e8%8b%b1%e5%9c%8b%e6%b5%b7%e5%a4%96%e8%88%aa%e7%a9%ba-boac-douglas-dc-3-g-agke-ardba87
